in the early 1950s, the Salk vaccine had just been discovered, and polio
was still an epidemic. I was preaching in Hugo, Oklahoma, at a sectional
camp meeting for the Assemblies of God organization.
They put up a tent in the city park of Hugo and invited me to speak.
A woman brought her little boy who couldn't walk. He was almost five
years old. When he was fourteen months old, he had contracted polio.
Both of his legs were flopping around.
When she would get tired of holding him, she'd hold him underneath her
arm like a sack of flour. Those little legs were flopping just like a
rag doll.
I was sitting in a chair on the platform as I laid hands on folks. In
those days, that's the way I conducted my healing lines in larger
meetings. I took that child from her and set him on my lap. I could feel
the power of God go out of me into that child.
I put him down, and he ran up and down the platform! He was instantly
healed! Praise God! At sixteen years of age, he was a quarterback on his
high school football team.
Confession: God's power is present to heal. When I hook my faith up
with the power of God, I will see results!
